1938 Minden and Genoa, Nevada. Owls nest in the lower branch of a large Cottonwood Tree. During lunch we saw Wood Pencils, House Wren, W. Vireo, Yellow Warblers, Cyprias, Meadows Lark, Brewer Blackbird, English Sparrow, Cedar Wax- wing (heard), Linnets, Mt. Goldfinch, Spotted Towhee, Black-headed Grosbeak. As we tried to cross to Minden on the road near the end of the Kingbury Grade we came upon deep water over the roads, so returned to Genoa and crossed there. At a stop, we explored a small field that had been drained and planted to grain. The dykes were covered with wild roses 6-8 ft high and in full bloom. At least three Long-tailed Chats were singing wildly in dif- ferent parts of this hedge. Just beyond it, young Black-billed Magpies were squealing for food. Several Song Sparrows were singing. At the ranch near Minden a Fulvous Tree Duck was on the pond. Also two male Cinnamon Teal, a pair of Coots leading young through the reeds. The young had red only on the heads. Yellow-headed Blackbirds were there and a Yellowthroat was singing. Several Sandpipers were seen. It was too late to stop in the Sagebrush, We returned via Clear Creek Grade. At Tahoe Meadows this was a great deal of land covered by water. Just back of the beach Cottages I found two Spotted Sandpipers (one without spots) and a Killdeer. On the
