1938 Carmel Apr. 27. The Lady Birds went to Carmel. Cloudy. Left Berkeley 8:30 a.m. Between Mt. Eden and Alvarado we stopped to see the birds on water still remaining from heavy winter storms. Cinnamon Teal (3), Dovetiters, Semi-paluated Clover (3), Yellowlegs (1), Cost and a Bittern were seen. Farthers on Bon Gulls. At Dumbarton Bridge even on first salt pools: Thala-ropes and Red-backed Sandpipers in full plumage Carpium of Fortner Terus, Bluebills, Eared Grebes (75) in breeding plumage; At Palo Alto, Wood Peewee; At Mt. View Marsh, Clapper Rail, Fortner Terus, Hussonian and Long-billed Curlew, Godwits; At Almaden Lajuli Ponding, House Wren, Bush- tits nest. Toward Hecker Pass, Criele, Cliff-spring Sparrow, Common Loon and Violet-green Swallows (or reservoir); At Moss Landing; Least Tern, Red-breasted Mergansers (30+ several males); Ruddy Duck & Dovetiters, Herd. Curlew; At Monterey (lagoon) Bridled Grebe, Ruddy Ducks, Tree Swallows. April 28: Raining, Carmel, Pigeon Guillemots, Baird Cormorants, Brown Pelicans, Herd. Curlew Sandwings, Barn Swallows, Willow Goldfinches, Bajin Mithatik, Cedar Waxwing; At Pacific Grove, Pacific Loon, Pig. Guillemots, Surf Bird (1), Black Turnstone (2), Black Brant; At Monterey (lunch at Pop Ernest) 20-30 Common Loons, At Palo Alto Mockingbird, At Dumbarton Bridge Avocets, Black-crowned Night Heron
