up on the hillside. Several times we saw
a Prairie Falcon flying very swiftly; Twice
we saw one teasing a Turkey Buzzard.
List of birds seen or heard: Snail, Buzzard,
Redtail (a pair), Prairie Falcon, Sparrow (hawk),
Killer, Mourning Dove, Nuttall Woodpecker, Lewis
Woodpecker, Flicker, Western Coughfeather, bird,
Say Phoebe, Black Phoebe (Arroyo Mucho),
Cliff Swallow, Barn Swallow, Violet-green Swallow,
Cali. Jay, Bush. Tit, Rock Wren, House Wren,
Western Bluebird, Western Gnatcatcher, Pipit,
Cali. Shrike (abt.), Lutescent Warbler (?), Meadowlark,
Redwing, Grise (Bullock), Brewer Blackbird,
House Finch, Green-backed Goldfinch, Brown
Torthee, Lark Sparrow (a pair at Arroyo Mucho)
Chipping Sparrow, Juncos (very gray in a flock),
Gambel Sparrows (several flocks flying), Golden-
crowned Sparrow, Western Savannah Sparrow.
38 species.
I suspect that the Lewis Woodpeckers were
preparing to nest as we saw no groups,
only single birds or pairs and at our place
we saw the pair investigate a hole.
Following tractor below Alvarado were 50 Bonaparte's Gulls.
Apr. 14. Easter Vacation. We drove to Boulder Creek
via Dunbarboro Bridge. Lesser Scaups were
still very abundant. No Rare Grebes, Pelicans,
Egrets, Herons or Curlews. All three sandpipers were
present, Least in largest numbers; Redbreasted
scent and most of them with black bellies; and
a few Western. No large flocks. A few Willets.
