Flicker Box which the Street Clubs have
deserted. No Female House Wren seen but
the male chirped inside the box as if she
were inside. Tolinia Warbler not heard.
May 25. Commencement Day. Warm, sunny.
At 5 p.m. we started to Boulder Creek -
At Drumbarlin Bridge the only birds seen
were Swallows (100s), a few Caspian Terns
and Avocets. A few Rails flying over the
bridge. At Mt. View Marsh the tide was
just beginning & ebb and enough mud
exposed to attract waders but I saw only
three Old Plums, all in immature plumage
May 26. Boulder Creek. Clear, warm. Many birds
singing. Lazy Bumble-beetled Thrush gathering
nesting material - bark & moss from redwoods
at Camp Joy. Black-throated Gray Warbler still singing
but could not find the female. Two Warbling Vireos
viciously attacked a Great Jay that dropped to the
ground and caught a grasshopper.
May 27. Cloudy all day. In the afternoons we went to
Santa Cruz. No Gullillets seen. Brought and
Feralone Dromadants and a few B. Belicae on
the Rocks. Gulls: A Bonaparte's, a few with
black heads; Hermanns - a few immature,
Western. Ducks - a few Widgeon and Scoters;
7 Common Loons flying northward - two
on bay near docks. J.T. heard song Hermit Thrush
at end of my plunge - east.
May 28. Cloudy all day - A male Warbling Vireo had
his youngsters with him - Sang both vocs.
