Willetts 100s on the dykes. California Gulls
by the hundreds, resting on the dyke, on the
salt pool (to North) and flying nearer the hills.
(No terns seen). Rails at West end of bridge.
Mar.24. Easter. Rain.
Mar.25. Allen Hammer Group went to Costa Costa Co.
Cloudy - not cold. Birds very abundant.
On the way to Maragua we stopped where a
large flock (60+) of Budget Sound Sparrows
were singing. They were feeding on the ground, also
on the branches of the willows. A Redtail and
a Turkey Buzzard were soaring very near together. At St. Mary's College we walked
along a trail on the south side of the lake where
we saw twenty or more species. Near the
College there were Bluebirds and one Nuttall
Sparrow was singing as if nesting there.
We went on to the Haverland Ranch where we
ate lunch. A Slender-billed Wiltwatch came into
the tall tree near us and we watched it as
it explored a large branch, going on the under
side, then the upper side and around the branch
not tracing the tail. A Titmouse was giving all
its calls.
