Sept.22. 98° at Gas Station at Boulder Creek at
9a.m. Went up probably over 100°
during the day. At Sempre Verde we saw
Towhees, Warblers, Chickadees, Pygmy Nuthatches,
R.b. Thrush, Dark-eyed Juncos and heard Pretty
Golden-crowned Kinglets & Creepers.
Later we walked through the Santa Cruz
Big Trees - very hot - fire in Gaysault
Canyon. Excellent views of W. Winter Creeper,
Creepers, Golden-crowned Kinglets, Cali. Wood-
peckers, Pygmy Nuthatches at: but very high
in trees.
Sept.23, Boulder Creek - Sempre Verde - a Robin:
J.T.A. & D drove to Carmel.
At Moss Landing - Gulls most abundant-
in great masses on sand spits
and shores. Pied-billed Grebes - 3,
Eared G. 1, W.Grebe 1, (no time flying)
Willets 100+, Yellowlegs (St.) 1, a few Blue-
bills, N. Phalaropes (in creek pool only - 40+)
H.Barnes Long-t. Curlew 1, Godwits a few.
At Carmel: Mrs. Blewitt's Cottage. At the
feeding table! Thrasher, Chickadees, Pygmy
Nuthatches (5), Song Sparrow, The Nut-
chatches came repeatedly even when Mr.B.
stood within 4 ft. of the table. Always took
water. Mr.B. says they bathe by flicking
water with the tail. Chickadees do not
bathe. Hutton's Vireo, Metall Sp. and 40.
