Willet - one group 40? in shallow salt pool. Least Sandpipers - a few. Avocets - one mud bar covered with them - 40-50. N. Phalaropes - 1000? Several flocks of pintails - Total about 40. Sept. 12 Berkeley. A Cooper Hawk flew over the bird table and up to the road under the trees. The first one seen this fall. Sept. 13. A half inch of rain fell during the morning. Clearing in afternoon. Heard Great-horned Owl during the night- at first far away, then very close. Screetch Owls heard later. Warblers - a group, probably Yellow Warblers in the trees on Durant Ave. Below Telegraph. Afternoon - Brown Towhees eating termites on Woodwood Road. Sept. 14. Beautiful day. The Red Squirrel appeared in the oak next the garage and went quickly from tree to tree until it reached the house - then up to ridge of the front gable, on up to ridge of the main roof and over to the north side. Coast jays are about the house most of the time, often giving the ristail call. One comes to the table for food. Sept. 15. A thrasher came to the table for food.
