Cirle - frequently seen, but not as much in
the wet regions as in the day.
Brewer Blackbirds abr.
Tanagers - one in Refuge,
Eng. Sp. too abundant at hotel & in town.
Grosbeak - near hotel.
Lazuli Bunting - in Berkes Pass and along way
Linnet - abr.
Willow Goldfinch - a few seen.
Brown Thrasher - abr. everywhere.
Song Sparrow - abr. in the Refuge & elsewhere.
Total 62.
(Mrs. Drinn & Mr. Saunders returned via
Gustine where thin saw the Egret Colony
and reported a nest of Lewis Woodpecker
and Ysb. Mag. pie)
As I journeyed through Mulepas I saw again the B. Bird.
9 m San Leandro a Mockingbird was singing.
May 25, 26. Berkeley, P.O. Thrush sings constantly
under my window. Also Lutecant W.
Family of Titmouses in garden. Junco, Robin,
Bil. W. and Vireos near by - House Wrens still
singing.
May 27. J.T.A. took me (also Miss Gladding and
Lewis Hancom) to see the Egret Colony
near Gustine. When we reached Gustine me
continued on the highway about 1/2 miles;
then turned left at a gas station, crossed bridge
over a canal, then turned left into a ranch.
Behind the main buildings on the edge of a
small canal was a row of Cottonwood.
