piloted me through Tilden Park. After leaving
the car we walked along a trail that leads
along a creek to the Cares; returned to the
car and drove to the lower lake then
back to the dam which is being built
for another lake higher up, thin hours.
Birds seen; Redtail (heard calling); Quail (scr. paris).
Hummingbirds were abundant. A female Anna
was seen many times, Twice collecting down-
The Allen and Rufous (water) were seen and
a pair which I think were Calliope. The
female was perched in a dead weed three to four
feet from the ground and the male was lower
up above in a shallow arc. The note at
the bottom of the arc was faint and thread
like. They were very small and the female was
greenish with only a small amount of rusty.
A Cabanis Woodpecker was heard, also a Flicker.
The Olive-sided Flycatcher's note was heard
as soon as we reached the upper part of the
park and we soon saw him perched near the
top of a cypress. (A male Anna X. above him).
