morning on the summit. It was very cold all day-
We went first to St. Mary's College Lake where
we found a few Pintails, some Ring-necked Ducks,
Ruddies, Bluebill (a few), two female Mergansers (sp?). I
was surprised to see two or three swallows
skimming over the lake, apparently tree
swallows. Below the dam on the roof of some
Reduction plant building construction with sprinklers on the top
there were many Audubon Warblers and,
one Say Phoebe. They all alighted on the coarse
rock which covered the roof, apparently
finding food there. Other birds seen were:
W. Bluebirds, Robin, Sparrow (warbler), Redtail,
Gambel and Golden-crowned Sparrows, Hermit Thrush,
Song Sparrow. In spite of the cold the Y.C.Sparrow
and Song Sparrow were singing.
We went on to Mr. Naterlands Bee Ranch
beyond Bananap on Tyler Creek. There we
saw many Calif. jays, one woodpecker (sp?),
one Flicker, robins, Titmouse (spring calls),
Spotted Towhee, Purple Finch (eating maple seeds).
Bluebird and Golden-crowned Sparrows.
On the way up to the house we found a Townsend
Solitaire which has a brown berry in its beak.
Later it flew down into the roadway, then up
into a small bush as we had an excellent
opportunity to watch it. Mrs. N. asked us to eat
our lunch in the house. After lunch the Soli-
taire was seen again.
We went then to San Pablo Reservoir where
we saw hundreds of Canada Geese, many
Ring-necked Ducks, Ruddies, only four Pintails;
