was very warm (70°+) Returns via Dumbarton Bridge-
Very noticeable increase in gulls which have
for hare not been abundant. Today thousands
of them among them about 1000 Bonapartes.
Eared Grebes increasing. Some Sandpipers,
Belted and Am. Egrets and a few ducks but
very few (12+) Three Turkey Buzzards near
Patterson ranch - All the way along wherever
plowing was being done. There were many gulls
and in some places Killdeer.
Man at Service Station at Saratoga said he
went to Los Banos duck shooting yesterday.
Got 4 Green-winged Teal. Ducks not abundant.
Have been more on bay this year.
At Boulder Creek I heard Varied Thrush, Nutton
Vireo, Chickadeers, and saw 3 R.c. Knights in one
tree - some fighting among them. Many Crowed
Sparrows along way and hosts of Brewer Blackbirds,
Gulls and Killdeer following the plough in
many fields.
Dec. 17-21. Light frost, Clear days.
Dec. 21. Drove via Marsh Creek to Byron Hot Springs
then via Altamont Pass to Livermore and back to
Berkeley. Bright warm day.
Dec. 22. Many birds come for food. Rob. Nuttall calling
continuously near table. Mrs. Blanks reported that
a Ruby-crowned Knight & a Blender killed Nuttall
came to her Table for five bread crumbs.
Dec. 28. A little rain last night. Willows still brown.
A Red-breasted Nuttall was on the ground near
the door of the sub-basement, apparently partly stunned.
With difficulty it flew into the Toyon bush (81%+) where it
