Lady Birds went to Nortownville & Marsh Creek. Too early for flowers. Mustard out, poppies beginning. Nortownville - coal mines. Windy. Very few birds but we did see a pair of Say Phoebe and heard their notes. Song ? - sweet whistle Returned to Marsh Creek near Clayton where we found flocks of goldfinches and sickles feeding on flowers of deciduous oaks. March 11. Found a W. Winter Wren under acacia near East Hall. The acacia touched the ground. Very warm. March 12. Many birds singing - Song Sparrows, Virginia Wren R-C Kinglet, Titmouse, Lutescent Warbler, Purple Finch and Thrasher (p.m. below house.) Wild Ceanothus in bloom in Strawberry Canyon. Beautiful day. March 14. Drove to Boulder Creek via Dublin, Saratoga. Bestune orchards in blossom - very early. Mrs. Stearns reports W. Flycatcher at Orinda. March 15 Heard Warbling Vireo near Colleges. Two Hutton Vireo calling continuously. Spotted Thrasher first bird & sing in morning. Beautiful weather. Returned via Daylins to La Honda Junction, then Dumbarton Bridge - high tide. Cared Grebes, Sandpiper, Many Gulls. Increase in Gambel Sparrows. March 16. High fog - Sullery. W. Flycatcher near Women Faculty Club. Hermit Thrush, Varied Thrush, R-C Kinglet, Cedar Waxwing also.
