March, 1917. March 31. Last regular Bird Walk. Went to Museum. Mill Valley. Spent four days at Turner's Cottage upon divide between Mill Valley and Muir Woods. Apr. 1-4. A surprising lack of birds possibly due to fierce fire which burned large areas on the mountain last year. Apr. 1. Beautiful Spring day. Saw Turkey buzzards (4) - Allen H (1). War- tits (2), Swallows (2), Lutescent Warblers Bushtits (2), Sharp-shinned Hawk (1) Quail (20). Apr. 2. Buzzards (2), Red-tailed Hawk (1), Virgo's Green (1), Lutescent Warblers (2), Coast Jay (2). Foggy w. Some rain. Windy night Apr. 3. Purple Finch (1), Hutton Vires (1), S.F. Towhee (1), Cal. Jay (2). Beautiful warm day. Apr. 4. Juncite Eich. Came home - apr. 5. Warm. Apr. 6 / House Wren singing. War declared.
