Dec. 1916.
Dec. 18. Walks down Cornth's Campus. Near Agriculture
Bridge saw hosts of birds - Sparrows, R. Knights,
6 Townsend Warblers, juncoes, and one strange
warbler, olive green above, yellowish below,
white spot over eye - Orange-crowned Warbler.
Dec. 19. Rusty Song Sp. back again after an
absence of several weeks.
Dec. 21. At 1 P.M (cold day) I was attracted
by a chorus of alarm notes which sounded as
if dozens of Br. Turkeys were calling. Found
flock of 12 Cassin Purple Finches in Black
vat bites near edge of our lot - among
their four males with red feathers on
head lifted into crest. Females streaked,
bills large tapering not rounded above.
Red of males yellower than that of Cal. Purple
Finch. Remained some ten minutes.
Could not detect cause of alarm. Directed
down then began to eat buds on oak
