May 5. Did not succeed in protecting last Wrentit-
Nest empty.
May 6. Saw Golden-crowned Sp. (last time)
May 7. Cold N.W. wind. Found S.F. Towhee nest on ground
just below house - north. Under end of fallen log
and at foot of old stump. Three young sparrow
kills. Parents scolded persistently. Two Titmice,
one Heterocent Warbler, one Song Sparrow, and
Two Wrentits came to investigate commotion
caused by my approach.
Wrentit nest on Narrow House contained 5 eggs.
House Wren feeding very noisy young
Vigoro Wren in nesting box brooding. (2)
White-crowned Sparrows feeding young out
of nest.
May 8. Saw flock of 12 Bulbs rise and start east-
ward.
May 9. Bird walk. Above Elk Theater, along
hillside to south, down Strawberry Canyon
to Piedmont Arc. Saw and heard
