Dutch Flat , Pine Mound Resort . June 11 - July 19 . Altitude 3500 ft. just beyond region of hydraulic mines . Great sand and gravel wastes , diggings , to west and north . To east and south beautiful mountain slopes covered with yellow pine, a few sugar pines ( lower limit ) cedars , spruce and balsam fir . In some of the wooded canyons poison oak grows . White oaks , maples , alders , dogwood , are the main deciduous trees . Much of the land has been cleared and planted to apples or pears . Underbrush consists of azalea , thistle , berry , manzanita , Tiger lilies abound and some Washington lilies
