March 17. Very hot. East wind.
Went up on hill with Mrs. Paice
about 9 o'clock. Saw juncoes.
Learned song of Rufous-crowned
Sparrow. Saw two Western
Gnatcatchers in brush back of
Frenchman's house. Later in
afternoon saw one in black oak
tree near house.
March 18. Saw Hermit Thrush,
Fox Sparrow + Golden-crowned
Sparrow. Many Intermediate
Sparrows singing. Have heard
very few of the latter all winter.
Are they migrating thro' this section?
March 19. Warbling Vireo heard at 7 A.M.
Heard and saw two W. Gnatcatchers in
Vireo near house.
Cooper Club. Miss Atteatt came home with me.
