Went to see Mr. Newhall 2629 Piedmont Ave. Saw Anna Hummingbirds nest containing two large young-almost crowded out nest Nest in redwood tree on lower side of extending branch about 10-12 feet from ground. Saw Chest-backed Thrush's nest containing 4 young. 3 hatched July 4. 1 hatched July 6. Nest in climbing rose bush against house- about 14ft. ft. from ground. From porch, above we could look directly into nest and watch feeding- Both birds feed young. 12. S.F. Thrushes bought young to feeding ground Also song sparrows - second proof ? Cal. Br. Thruses carrying food. 27. Many Hermann's Gulls on bay
