of the other birds began im-
mediately to bring food to the
little orphan. But the day
was cold and rainy and the
little bird evidently misses
the warmth of my hand. I put
the bird in a protected place
on a hot water, and revived
him from sort of a stupor. Again
the adopted parents returned but

the children again began to
feed it large worms they found
on some weeds near by. When
I returned from an afternoon
engagement the bird was dead.
