At 3:20 sat back to observe
-young now hungry whereas they were
not at 2:00 -
Parents appeared by 2:10 - no food -
sat about together as when building
nest. Made one attempt to come to
nest - at usual place - or Compton
away over field.
young not afraid. - post heads up
for food.
Compton says while I was at nest
birds would fly away by tens seen
out over the fields and hover at
10-15ft watching me.
Birds would not come to nest - then
friendly female approached but
fear stretched and walked about
tree limbs where we had disturbed
them 1/2 from nest to photograph.
Also changed position of little posts
beneath may have disturbed her.
However such disturbances before
have not affected parents so. -
She sat beside nest and gave
more scratches - did not feed
but uprooted large fecal sac
1 cm in length or more and
command to cast further stone
dropping - when my going to
nest young failed to raise heads
as had done just before -
eventually scratch signals young
to see the presence at nest.
