257 Repeats, etc. Brought in by a cat to neighbor of Mr. James F. Allen. Bird was uninjured, and was given to Mrs. Allen, who asked me to feed it. Repeats, etc. Found in inner compartment of a government sharow trap, where it had killed two Golden-crowned 1/18/40. Found again in inner compartment of same trap, where it had killed two more Golden-crowned Sparrows. See Page 294. This hawk killed several birds in my traps. I used a No. 0 steel trap wound with cord on top of a post. Within half an hour after setting the trap this hawk was caught. Although there were no birds in the trap underneath the pole-trap. Gave birds to Dr. Richard Marel, who took it out. To a friend. Told me 12/30/40 that the bird had died in captivity.
