Saw a Calif. jay in top of dead willow Tree feeding young. The food call of young as well as the appearance of its juvenile plu- mage were observed. - Observed a pair of Intercent warblers foraging in terminal foliage of a live oak in canyon. Seemed to be feeding young. They hop along, working up the branches, sometimes almost upside down. - Pileated warbler heard near Dairy Barn. Brown towhee also in same locality. Near Swimming Pool, spurred towhee was located in a laurel. Call note similar to that of jay. Saw a purple finch. - Distinguishing characters, purple head and throat, no streaking on breast, amarginate tail. Heard thrasher across canyon on hillside. Several linnets were seen in flight. Their flight is swifter than That of the goldfinches, with less dipping. Heard quail; two calls "the "all's well" and the "come right home". - Spurred towhees seen and heard in live oaks near swim- m ing pool. - The slow, intermittent flight of a brown towhee was observed.
