Birds of interest in the Japanese tea Garden were the Java sparrow, Japanese stock and Japanese quails minus the long feathers. Stow Lake — A number of water birds were seen here. Two or three coots, same as previously mentioned: a few, scaup ducks of both sexes. Characteristics noted: (1) short wide bluish bill, (2) head greenish black, shoulders rump & chest black. Female — prevailing color brown- ish. On the shore near the water's edge a pair of brewer blackbirds were seen. The male, bluish black, the female dark brownish, without markings. — A single baldpate duck was identified by the bill, blue with black tip, The white crown with sides of head bearing metallic green patches, neck and head region below green patches, buff with dark specks. — A single ruddy duck was identified by its prevailing chestnut color;
