- Golden Gate Park Trip - July 4-14.
Weather calm, warm and bright.
In portions of park not sheltered by
Trees, a brisk breeze was noticed.
The party about twenty in num-
ber entered the park at the Knight
St Entrance. On lagoon, near this
entrance, a coot, a female mallard and
two black swans were seen. Most con-
spicuous characters noted were (1) The white
bill with subterminal brown spot, bill in
shape, stout, nearly as long as head. (2) The
toes not webbed but with lobate edges. (3) The
coloration, whole head and neck blackish,
rest of upper parts, seen, plumbeous. This
coot was perhaps a prisoner here as the
lagoon appeared to me too small to afford
the bird the running start necessary to it
in starting to fly. Despite the non-webbed
toes, the bird appeared to be a good swim-
mer not at all handicapped by the pecu-
liarity. - The black swan is an exotic
form and need not be described here.
