White rump clearly visible Type B sighted by watch - high scaling - possible Sooty Shear 0634 Shearwater sp 1 N 0711 Wedgetail S. 1 E very dark - somewhat lighter underwing + or breast definitely dark phase but flying also Wedgetail 0720 Newell's S. 1 NE 200 off bars, sharp contrast upper + lower - typical shearwater flight or stiff wings - white "tab" like Violet - Green, Sallows clearly seen . 0730 Shearwater sp. 1 N 250 yds. off port dark back underparts not seen high scaling flight possible Sooty Shearwater 0746 Sooty Shearwater 1 N 5 to 40 ft. high scaling Flight did not flap dark (gryphist brown upper parts) white wing linings very conspicuous 0800 Sooty Shearwater 1 N 300 yds off starboard Shearwater sp. 1 N 2000 yds. off starboard silhouette seen against horizon 0805 under way stopped for hydration during past hour 0810 Shearwater sp 1 N probable Sooty Shear but too far off. 0815 Sooty Shear? 1 N at distance - high scaling shearwater. 0830 Shearwater sp 1 N at distance high scaling - probable Sooty Shear 0837 Shearwater sp 1 NW ditto above 0850 Sooty Shear. 3 NW white lining seen clearly 0903 Storm Petrel sp 1 N in sun. Bob light spotted by watch. 0934 Shearwater/ petrel 1 NW 0946 "Lands" Storm Petrel 1. NW Type B petrel - like flies with swoop & fast course changes or stiff wings. Not very batted - white rump seen feeding flock, dispersing as we came up to them between ship + feeding flock 1020 Sooty tern 15 1021 Sooty Shearwater 1 NW
