4 Bulwer's Petrel This species decreased 72% in number from 178 in May to 50 in June, due undoubtedly to a localization of the species' distribution during breeding season nearer the breeding areas. Red-tailed Tropicbird This species decreased in numbers 40% from 25 in May to 15 in June. As in past months, distribution of this species remains rela- tively random throughout the grid area. White-tailed Tropicbird The 71% decrease in numbers from 24 in May to 7 in June can be accounted for to a large extent by the fact that the May cruise passed within sight of a nesting area of this species on Maui. As in previous months no concentrations of this species were noted. Blue-faced Booby Only one of this species, an immature, was seen in June, at the southern end of the grid area, where the species has appeared in past cruises. Brown Booby One of this species, an adult, was observed perched on a buoy at the mouth of Pearl Harbor. Red-footed Booby Due to the fact that the ship passed during darkness the area where the great majority of this species is usually seen, the area just north of Oahu, numbers decreased 91% from 108 in May to six in June. These six were seen just south of Oahu.
