April 26 Conaway Ranch, 2 mi. east of Woodland, Yolo Co, Calif.
White-fronted Goose-2 Black Tern - 2
Anthony Green Heron-4 Forster's Tern - 4
Red-backed Sandpiper-3 Bullock's Oriole-4
This makes a total of 38 species seen today.
Today was the first time this year that I
had seen Black or Forster's Terns, Green
Heron, or Red-backed Sandpiper. A flock
of 60 White-fronted Geese were seen to
pass over, headed north just as I
was preparing to return home.
April 27 Very few ducks were seen flying today.
The majority of them were seen loafing on
the newly flooded fields. I didn't reach
the wheat & barley fields until 8:50A.M., + by
that time, apparently, all searching for mating
sites was over for the morning. A flock
of 55 White-fronted Geese flew over,
going north. Two new Killdeer nests
were found & marked. About ½ the
morning was spent under the pipeline
ledge watching the cliff swallows. The
species seen today are:
Greater Yellow-legs-3 Mallard-2
Red-winged Blackbird-1 Coot - 3
House Finch-3 Great Blue Heron-3
Meadowlark-3 Marsh Wren-4
American Egret-3 Pheasant-3
Bittern-4 Avocet - 4
Tree Swallow-4 Killdeer-3
Calif. Shrike-4 Crow-4
