Mayhew 1950 April 26 Conaway Ranch, 2mi. east of Woodland, Yolo Co., Calif. I spent this morning from 6:30 on primarily looking for Mallard nests. However, most of these birds are still looking for nesting sites. Quite a few were seen flying low over the wheat + barley fields, but I found no nests. I did find one Killdeer nest, though. About 1/2 of the rice land is flooded by now. A large number of Mallards were seen loafing on these flooded areas after 9A.M. Until that time, most of these birds were seen flying over the grain fields. A great many Long-billed Dowitchers were also seen on this flooded area. The birds seen today were: Greater Yellow-legs - 4 Calif.
