June 19 Conaway Ranch, 2 miles east of Woodland, Yolo Co., Calif.
at the edge of a barley field along a
ditch bank. One egg was also found
there, but there was no indication of
a nest. She had been almost entirely
eaten quite a while ago.
a pair of ♀ were flushed from a
ditch bank, but I could find no
trace of any young. The females left
the area entirely.
(21) a nest made of profuse down was
found on the top of a ditch bank.
All the eggs apparently had hatched.
(22) a nest was found along the top
of a ditch bank. The 6 eggs had
been eaten.
(9) This nest had been deserted, although
it hadn't been uncovered by the harvester
yet. 2 eggs were broken, 3 were intact.
All of them had begun development.
June 21 I rode a harvester all day today.
(17) This nest had been found by some
predatory animal, as all the eggs had
been eaten - just parts of the shells
remained.
(23) a ♀ was flushed from a nest in the
tall grass along the top of a ditch
bank. The nest had 8 eggs in it. The
♀ dropped into a ditch about 30 feet away
from me.
(24) a ♀ flushed from a nest that held 2 eggs.
