Mayhew 1958 Oct. 31 Journal 116. 5 mi. W. of Glamis, Imperial Co., Calif. The air temp. was 22.6°C., the soil surface temp. was 31°C., the relative humidity was 55%. Young Uma notata were on the surface basking at this time.. No adults were seen on the surface until 0942 when the soil surface temp. was 35°C. There are a tremendous number of young in this region now. Not too many adults were seen, and those that were seen usually were successful in reaching a burrow before we reached them. However, a few large specimens were captured. Three adult or Urosaurus graciosus also were caught. These were either on the ground beneath vegetation on the sand dunes or else were on the vegetation itself. We found most of the animals at the base of steep dunes on the lee side. Vegetation is reasonably abundant in this location, and several times we found at least a dozen animals around a single large piece of vegetation. We returned to the car at 1245 and left the area at 1320. The maximum temperature recorded for the day was 84°F. The sky was almost completely overcast by the time we left,
