Oct. 18 East of Phelan, San Bernardino Co, Calif.
would be better than walking
through an area. We had to return
to UCR before noon, so we hurriedly
drove through Phelan on Sheep Creek
Road to reach the Cajon Junction-
Palmdele road (Highway 138). At
the junction of Highway 138 and Sheep
Creek Road is a beautiful valley
full of Joshua trees and junipers
that might be ideal Sceloporus
magister country. We plan to look
it over next Spring. We reached
UCR at 1205 after a total trip
of 295 miles for the 2½ day
period. We plan also to return to
our campsite of last night to
see if more animals are present
there next spring. This spot is
just west of two rows of major
power lines leading to Los Angeles.
The entrance to the road is 0.2
mile west of the power lines, and
is the 2nd dirt road to the left.
The 1st dirt road is a small, windy
one that travels beside the power lines.
