rocks, basking in the sun. We
located a rather good collecting
spot for our transect work at
about 4100 feet, which was 5 miles
on up the Mill Creek Road toward
Barton Flats. The 5000 foot collecting
site, 3'1/2 miles further up the road,
and 2'1/2 miles below Camp Angelus,
doesn't look very easy to work.
However, it should provide sufficient
animals for our study. This spot
is in rather precipitous country,
compared to the 3000 & 4000 foot
sites (both of which are in the stream
bed). The 6000 foot site is 2'1/2 miles
above Camp Angelus, and 3 miles
below the Jenks Lake turnoff. This
area looks to be easy to work.
We ate lunch at Barton Flats
campground #2 (6260 feet elevation,
about 1 mile above Jenks Lake
turnoff). The South Fork campground,
about 3 miles on up the road from
Barton Flats campground #2, but at
the same elevation, was our next
stop. We collected several Uta
stansburiana and Sceloporus occidentalis
here. No Sceloporus gracilis were
seen, although we have several in our
collection from here. The air temp.
