Mayhew 1947 Journal L May 10 Wildcat canyon, Contra Costa Co., Calif. The field trip today began at the tennis court at Indian camp in Wildcat canyon. Our group then proceeded to a little stream just south of ~~wildcat~~ Tilden Park golf course club house, where we looked for amphibians. Most of the morning was spent turning over rocks + branches near the stream or exploring in the pools formed by the stream. The day was warm and sunny. The amphibians found were: Triturus granulosus, Hyla regilla, Batrachoseps attenuatus, Ensatina escholtzii, Aneides lugubris, + Rana aurora. The reptiles found on the grassy hillside that we explored were: Pituophis catenifer (gopher snake) + Sceloporus occidentalis (fence lizard). May 16 U.C. campus, Alameda Co., Calif. All morning, + all the afternoon that I didn't have class, I sat under a conifer just south of Hilgard Hall & watched a robin's nest. May 21 I spent all the afternoon, from 3:30 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. observing the actions of a pair of parent Robins feed their young. The weather was warm + clear until about 5:45 P.M. when a high fog blanketed the area, causing quite a drop in temperature. It became even cooler as soon as the sun went down behind the Golden gate at little later.
