Mayhew 1958 Journal 87. May 23 Borrego area, Colorado Desert, San Diego Co., Calif. beyond to Burno Bend (Ocotillo Wells) & return to Scissors Crossing. Night collecting was quite good. The kinds and numbers collected were as follows: Rhinocheilus lecontei (1) Pituophis catenifer annectens (1) Crotalus cerastes (1) Crotalus mitchelli (1) Masticophis flagellum (2) (1 DOR) Lampropeltis getulus (1) Chionactis occipitalis (7) Phyllorhynchus decurtatus (4) arizona elegans (5) Leptotyphlops humilis (2) Hypsiglena torquata (1) Trimorphodon vandenburghi (1) Coleonyx variegatus (8) We finally stopped picking up Coleonyx even though several more were seen. We brought home most of the specimens captured by both teams. In all, we caught 27 snakes of 12 species besides the Coleonyx. As far as night collecting goes, this was the best night I have ever experienced. We returned to Riverside the same night, reaching home at 4:30 A.M. (PST). All of the animals were still in good shape when we reached home.
