Mayhew 1958 Feb. 4-6 Journal 59. Colorado Desert, Riverside & Imperial Cos, Calif. some unidentified hummingbirds. 7. On the west side of Salton Sea from Salton Sea Beach to the southern outskirts of Indio. There was lots of mistletoe on both sides of the road for miles. As we were traveling through the area rapidly, we didn't see many plainspeas, but did manage to see a few. Our impression was that they were fairly numerous in that area. 8. Indian Wells. A number of plains were seen just east and across the road from Desi Arnaz' fancy hotel. Lots of mistletoe in that location. 9. Palm Desert. Up Deep Canyon south of the Palm Springs Wildlife Refuge. A couple of plains seen here. 10. East end of Dillon Road just north of Indio. Lots of mistletoe & some plains seen. Quite a few wild flowers were seen on the trip, such as sand verbena, desert sunflower, Encelia, desert primrose, some kind of lupine, and many annuals I couldn't identify. Creosote bush was in bloom in some spots, but these blooms were rather restricted in their distribution at this time. One adult Callisaurus was caught (Desert Center) & another seen on entire trip.
