Feb. 4-6 Colorado Desert, Riverside & Imperial Cos., Calif.
check on mistletoe stands at Indian
Wells, Palm Desert, and on Dillon
Road (east of Indio). We reached UCR
at 3:45 PM. after a trip of 738 miles.
The mistletoe stands were as follows:
1. Spots along highway 111 about 1 mile
S. of Mecca. No plainspeople seen here.
2. Near Frink on east of Salton Sea. No
plainspeople seen.
3. South of Bombay Beach on east side
of Salton Sea. No plains seen.
4. Creek bed just north of junction of
highway 195 with 60-70-99, just past
Shaw's Summit. There was lots of
mistletoe here, but was too dark to
tell if plains present or not.
5. 9 miles north of Desert Center on
road to Rice. There were extensive areas
of ironwood, palo verde, creosote bush,
burro bush, etc. with numerous
bunches of mistletoe scattered through
the area. Two pair of plains seen.
(Dinotrombium sp. collected in fair
numbers in sandy spots here.)
6. Yaqui Wells. One area about 50 yards
across that is covered with mistletoe.
At least a dozen plainspeople seen
here, along with mockingbird, verdin,
wren, bluebird, shrike, horned lark,
house finch, cactus woodpecker, and
