Mayhew 1957 Mar. 31 West side of Salton Sea, Imperial Co., Calif, were caught in the areas where these animals were common. Two species of fish were caught in San Felipe Creek - Sembusia affinis and a species tentatively identified by Lars Carpelan as Gillichthys mirabilis, Family Gobiidae. No Phainopepla were seen on this trip anywhere near San Felipe Creek, whereas in January, when Rudy Ruibal & I were there, large numbers were seen here. Apr. 5 Today Rudy Ruibal + I left for the Salton Sea area. We left campus at 11:15 A.M. and turned off highway 99 at Truckhaven, Imperial Co. We traveled west along the Arroyo Salada until we reached the Mud Hills. This area is quite barren as far as perennial vegetation is concerned, but a close inspection of the ground showed that lots of annuals are now present, + most of them are in flower. We proceeded down the Arroyo Salada until we crossed into Borrego State Park. During this time, we caught two kinds of mites + one Phrynosoma platyrhinos. Inside the state park we crossed Ella Wash, then Smoke Tree Wash, then traveled south on Short Wash. a little later this led us into San Felipe Creek Wash. We followed this south until we reached highway 78
