### Throughout the day it was evident that there were two series of hybrids - a diploid & tetraploid, i.e. angustifolium x atrococcum - casarema - also pennsylvanicum x conjfolium. The puzzle of Brittonia continues at N. Lebanon location

Vacc notes. Approaching Katallah: it was evident that angustifolia and caradense were hybridizing, for all intergrades were scarce, some detected only on analysis of minor characters. It seems that, in most places Caradense was the dominant form. If one dare guess, I would say

that the prevalence of entire-leaved forms was due solely to the abundance of co-dominance + the greater chance of back-crosses with it: the point being that the majority of the intermediates were entire margined. However, the presence of serrate-leaved forms is indicative of the lack of complete dominance,

except perhaps for the matter of recognizing segregates (which seems unlikely)." But one important was the series of cose forms 2½ - 3⅓th tall with obviously the look of tetraploids. This obviously in the course of the "canadense" tetraploid "canadense" from this area. This is because the allopolyploid can be of any aspect

some being like Brig augustfolius some like cardamines and some are in less intermediate. Brittonii being project complain. The story. There seems to be a little (but very little) evidence for mixing between the coarse allopolyploid & Brittonii. This must be studied carefully.

Notes on the blueberries of the Katahdin Region. V. canadense is by far the most common at the lower elevations; this probably the result of shade tolerance. V. angustifolium does not begin to be common until the timber line is reached i.e. until there is ample light available.

In the region of the Saddle Springs Canadense, and angustifolia and their hybrids where common, and formed dense turfs with V. uliginosum, and some campitosum = Kalmia Ledum etc. Here, august + campitosum had hybridized.

U lignin went to the top - with angustifolia just a few hundred feet below, but in places where there was some seepage. - On the lower slopes careline was dominant. - i.e. in shade.
