NB
Because in a way this scale is
impossible to show one has to
keep in mind the whole island especially
in the central part that I left out of
the sketch. The reason why there are
no coconut trees in the middle is
because the land was used for military
purposes and these were only 20 years ago.
There are some areas where they grow but
not as many as on the coast. There are
trees here too but not so large ones.
Short forest areas are rare and narrow.
The vegetation along the coast is mainly
casuarinas etc. near water's edge mostly.
Hill shrubs etc. along sea margin low,

The map shows the location of various types of vegetation on the island. The colors represent different categories:
- Green: Original forest (short and tall)
- Blue-green: Garden areas with coconuts, bananas, etc.
- Light blue: Swamp lands including mangrove swamps
- Brown: Term cultivation covers life gathering black crosses and peach shading
- Pink: Areas of sea deposited sand banks
- Yellow: Abundant coral outcrops 50-100' A.P.A.
- White: Sandy and undulating on site
- Gray: Loose beds of these and most
- Dark green: Isolated farms
The legend explains each color code clearly. Note that some garden areas are scattered throughout both coconut forests and original forest lands. Roughly the line of this description shows as near accurate as possible in such a mixed land type vegetation as exists on the island.
