May 4. 1918 Merrick - Valley Stream 29
Merrick. E. J, Automob to Meadow-
brook & walked to Coast-Cedar Swamp.
Had about 2 hours there & rode by
train to Valley stream totany then
about 2 hours. Walked around
the old broom where father used
to take us fishing when we were
small boys, My brother Ed & J.
At the north end it still looks
quite wild & I saw some trout
there. First apple blossom
today. Horse tail rushes grew
with amazing speed. Wonderful
difference in two weeks. Indeed
with all their shrubs & herbs
now this is most impressive
& new wonder every year.
Strawberries now in bloom,
In & adjoining the cedar swamp
at Merrick Mountain & Sheep
