Lehner P. 1964 Dec. 22 tides were very high this morning with surging lagoon waves breaking and rolling over the break water wall and rolling up to the back steps of the barracks; the waves surged over the causeway in several places washing large rocks onto the roadway and undermining much of the signal building; our first row of mouse traps (#1-9 on North Shore) were washed 20 feet inland; the western edge of the island up to the roadway to the dump was underwater; we took blood from 4 broken wing Sooty Terns; took the 4:30 P.M. M boat to Johnston to trap mice - had chow - left traps and returned to Sand on V.P. at 7:00; found a Red-tailed Tropicbird on nest and egg under Scaevola bush near barracks
