Sept. 23 got up due to noise arising from a
Coast Guard day off; checked mice, had brunch
and then made run to Johnston for boxes;
went skin-diving with Brownie, O.ch., Lt. Thurman
and Briggs on the raft to the range light;
found one large cowrie - left at 1:00, returned at
4:00; we weighed and measured Noddy chicks
after late chow; saw what appeared to be
a Wandering Tattler on the causeway, but
had yellow legs - further check showed this to
be a correct field character; at 7:15 P.M.
Cam and I saw an unknown shorebird east
of the transmitter bldg. - small, dark back
and breast, distinct demarkation to light
abdomen, mottled back and wing pattern in flight,
light under tail coverts; - we'll try to locate it
and collect it tomorrow; darkness caught us
tonight.
