Sept. 19 unusual day; the water was
unusually clear near Sand today; Cam and
I went skin diving north of the causeway;
I took pictures with my new underwater camera;
borrowed J.L.'s throw net and caught several
small mullet for the Petrel, but he won't eat;
worked on Progress Report.
Sept. 20 arose late; checked mice and to 11 A.M.
Mile boat to North Island for skin diving &
as we arrived to Hawaiians boarded the boat
with a Moray eel 5-6 ft. long they had
speared; I entered the water with some
apprehension after seeing that; also, the Navy
crew told me that several barracuda had
been caught inside the reef recently; as it turned
out, I saw two morays while diving (small ones,
3-4 ft. long) and got a picture of the head of one;
shot two rolls of film; having trouble with shutter
mechanism of the camera; the Petrel has still not eaten;
we can't figure out what species he is so will have
to collect him.
