Lehner, P. 1964 60 Sept. 10 Cam ran mousetraps; we made the boat run to Johnston to pick up box shipment for our live bird shipment; we stored all but the batteries in the Coast Guard Johnston Station locker; spent all afternoon helping Coast Guard bring supplies back over; late P.M. took it easy in anticipation of early rising to run first shift of guywire census. NIGHT ON SAND ISLAND The night wind breathes of a different world from the depths of which it comes; And the sounds it brings are from different things that arise when the sunlight runs; MAN HAS CHOSEN TO REST while this world is alive, and the only ones that will know, ARE THOSE who will step on a moonless night into darkness intent and slow; See with your ears and step very light, recall and then let it be known; There's nothing so weird, so soothing, so calm, as a Wedge-tailed Shearwater's moan.
