Lehrer, P.
1945
Feb. 12 - continued
the Sooties came in noticeably from the SW
today and seemed to funnel over the islet;
those that continued on to the island proper
appeared to seperate again into flocks of a
couple hundred birds, swoop and circle around
as a fairly compact unit and then move
among the thousands of Sooties amassed near,
on and above the highest point and the NE slopes
there was individual movement between smaller
flocks, but not marked;
1845: I would say that there were
no less than 150,000 Sooties on or over
the island; there were perhaps 10,000
sitting on the island.
Today we learned from Chief Rossi of Mr. Bushman's
plan to build a house on the island - needless
to say, this was met with mixed feelings throughout.
