Lehner, P. 1947 12 July 26 - continued Dick gave me a tour of the island, Sooty Terns are present in thousands (Dave estimated 23,000 this evening); Common Noddies in hundreds; several Brown, Red Footed and Blue Faced Boobies; a few Hawaiian Noddies; several Frigates; a few Fairy Terns; one Tropic Bird; a few Bulwer's Petrels; and several Wedgetail Shearwaters; still nesting were: Sooties, Noddies, Wedgetails, Bulwers, and Tropic birds. - the island abounds in birds, especially in the evening; saw a large ray 150 yards from shore - slowly flapping near the surface in a lethargic effort to move forward; after supper we collected ticks but were able to find only 600; tired as hell (9:25 P.M.) - to the rack.
