STATES, D.C., and PUERTO RICO
Each State has jurisdiction over the holidays it will observe. They are designated
either by legislative act or executive proclamation. The President and Congress designate
only for the District of Columbia and Federal employees throughout the nation.
JAN. 1 — New Year’s Day. All the
States, D.C., Puerto Rico.
JAN. 19 — Robert E. Lee’s Birth-
day. Ala., Ark., Fla., Ga., Ky., La.,
Miss., N.C., S.C., Tenn., Tex.; Lee-
Jackson Day in Virginia.
JAN. 20 — Inauguration Day. Dis-
trict of Columbia. Beginning 1937
and every fourth year thereafter.
FEB. 12 — Lincoln’s Birthday. All
the States, except Ala., D.C., Fla.,
Ga., Hawaii, Idaho, La., Me., Mass.,
Miss., N.H., N.C., Okla., R.I., S.C.,
Tex., Va. (In Ark., a memorial
day)
FEB. 22 — Washington’s Birthday.
All the States (Presidents’ Day in
Hawaii), D.C., Puerto Rico.
MAR. 30 — Seward’s Day. In
Alaska.
