15 April 81 Bimaga. 5889 20 Gypophalos war mexicanus 5.7.1.9 Citing. Modification complete. Dark brown, Bill and legs black Abundant here. Frequent in brush along water. Action similar to other Gypactelus except that I saw several fluttering stationary in the air similar to a Spurrow Hawk. Passed Pantano, a station on the Southern Pacific R.R., and followed down a cienga from it to the old overland station Bimaga, now abandoned since the R.R. took its occupation away. A cienga (see-in-x-ga) is a sort of marsh peculiar to this country. It is caused by the contraction of a valley by rocky ridge crossing the country and the waters having cut a channel through it.
