Camp Lowell.
To shoot from as the brush
was thick. Whichever way I went
the wing was interposed and
when I backed away for enough
to shoot I could not tell which
was Owl and which was leaf,
but after working a while I shot
by guess and it fell, I walked
up and was picking it up when
I was surprised by another of the
same species, which I had not
seen at all before, falling near
me. Of course some stray bullet
had struck it, but at first I
almost imagined it had been
frightened to death. The bird
that flew out of the brush was
probably one of the same species.
