Sept. 9. Shortly before sun up this morning and while the light was still strong even in the woods a tiny falcon came flying into the brake from between my tent & the water & alighted on the branch of an oak tree where it sat for about 5 minutes with crest erect jutting up its tail & at the same time lengthening & shortening the neck producing a slow bobbing of the head very like that of an Owl. These actions were performed every few seconds The bird looking very alert the whisk & glowing keenly about in every direction apparently to ascertain if it was observed. It then flew a few yards to another perch on a branch this time & bore its bobbed & crooked as before. After another five minutes it flew into a tall poplar tree and alighted near the end of a long branch at a height of about 30 feet at once squatted down & began preening its feathers. After settling on these perches it did not even lift its head or jerk its tail. As darkness gathered it settled lower & lower & shortened its neck but it did not bury its head in the feathers for up to the best I could see its bill pointing straight out over its breast. At 9 P.M. I went under the tree with a lantern and clearly made out the bird crouching in the same place. The bird stands on a hill side about 15 yards back from the shore & well within the woods.
Nearly every evening for the past two weeks I have seen or heard tiny fishes will back in the woods on the Point. Sometimes two men come dashing directly through one camp yard crossing one another rather loudly. I think they always go to their usual feeding grounds most birds
